Abstract
This work aims to understand the concept of landscape for visually impaired individuals
from APADEVI-PG. The walking methodology was employed to conduct an in-depth
analysis of the participants' experiences, involving two walking exercises: one within
the APADEVI institution (familiar path) and another in Monteiro Lobato Park (new
path). The analysis was based on more-than-representational theories, allowing for an
understanding of sensory interactions beyond vision. During the walks, conversations
were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed considering theoretical foundations on
landscape. It was observed that visually impaired individuals are deeply engaged with
landscapes, affecting and being affected through physical senses such as hearing,
touch, and smell. These interactions highlight the impossibility of generalizing
landscape as a purely multisensory experience, as each individual constructs their
perception uniquely. It is concluded that the perception of landscape by visually
impaired individuals is a dynamic and relational process, integrating multiple senses in
the construction of the perceived space. This enriches geographical understanding and
promotes a more inclusive and representative approach.
