Abstract
With this work we seek to understand how bisexual people, with their different identity
intersections, experience the Right to the City in Ponta Grossa - Paraná, Brazil. For
that, we are anchored mainly in four categories: Identity, Intersectionality, Bisexuality
and the Right to the City. In order to carry out an intersectional-identity analysis of
space, we used the Relief Maps methodology, developed by Maria Rodó-de-Zárate
(2011). Through this methodology, we were able to carry out individual and groupal
analyses of 13 bisexuals living in Ponta Grossa - Paraná, Brazil. They were found
using the technique of snowball sampling (GOODMAN, 1961). The Relief Maps
methodology condenses three dimensions: identity, geographic and emotional. The
identity dimension of the project we elaborated covers gender, bisexual and class
identities. The geographical dimension includes Housing, General Public Spaces, the
Internet, the Neighborhood, Political Groups, Educational Institutions, Leisure
Spaces, Work, the Body and the City. The emotional dimension includes feelings of
Acceptance, Relief, Freedom, Security, Indifference, Preoccupation, Control, Fear
and Discrimination. With this, we could observe that negative emotions are more
frequent, in general, than positive ones for bisexuals living in Ponta Grossa. This
influences the use of urban spaces, where this accumulation of negative feelings
often generates a rupture and/or disconnection with space. The City was the scale
with the greatest accumulation of negative affections, concentrating an unanimity
about the feeling of preoccupation. In contrast, Housing is the scale with the greatest
accumulation of positive affections, but it still presents itself as a conflicting and even
interdicted spatiality, especially when we consider dissident gender identities and
sexualities. Being conceived as a right that unites all others, the Right to the City in
Ponta Grossa - Paraná, regarding the people who self-identify as bisexual, proved, in
these parameters, as a selective, unilateral and paradoxical right. Despite this, when
negotiating with the matrices of power, these people create alternatives to experience
space in order to make it less interdicted, thus demonstrating that they have agency
over space, even if they do not fully exercise it.
