Indicação Geográfica e Cesta de Bens e Serviços Territoriais: o caso da IG de São Matheus

Abstract

This dissertation aims to analyze the existence of a basket of goods and services in the context of the geographical indication (GI) of São Matheus, located in the South of Paraná State. The strategic device referring to the basket of territorial goods and services is considered one of the sources inducing territorial development. This is an interdisciplinary research, which enables its analysis proposition within the Applied Social Sciences program of the State University of Ponta Grossa. Thus, the research proceeds as follows: (a) to understand the concept of geographical indication and its relation with development; (b) to verify the historical path traced by yerba mate, and its relevance in the region of the GI of São Matheus; (c) to verify the existence and use of territorial peculiarities and the mobilization of actors for a basket of territorial goods and services. The case study method was used as a research strategy. It is supported by the historical-dialectical materialism as an epistemological aspect. For the execution, methodological aspects of a qualitative and explanatory nature were adopted. Data collection was carried out with several sources of evidence, such as documentation, observation, and semi-structured interviews. Finally, data analysis was carried out by cross-referencing the selected evidence. Among the main results it is evident the existence of a basket of goods and services in the territory of the GI of São Matheus, and a disarticulation of the leading product, which can be associated to increase optimization and activate the other resources. The contributions identified raise the improvement of actions, which in the rich scenario studied, can articulate territorial quality development and income processes.
