Carreiras de jornalistas negras e negros no Brasil: um estudo sobre as diferenças raciais no trabalho jornalístico

Abstract

A presente pesquisa apresenta características do trabalho dos e das jornalistas negras e negros no Brasil, analisando múltiplas dimensões de suas carreiras. Este estudo se justifica pela necessidade de compreender o perfil dos jornalistas negros no contexto de um mercado de trabalho marcado por desigualdades raciais e pela relevância de promover a diversidade e inclusão na mídia. A partir de uma revisão de pesquisas já realizadas sobre perfil e carreiras de jornalistas brasileiros, a pesquisa visa compreender as condições de trabalho, os desafios enfrentados por esses profissionais. O problema de pesquisa é: quais as características das carreiras de jornalistas negras e negros no Brasil, considerando as dificuldades, oportunidades e estratégias de resistência enfrentadas por esses profissionais? O objetivo geral é compreender as condições da carreira de jornalistas negros e negras do Brasil. Como objetivos específicos, busca-se: (1) analisar as condições de carreira dosjornalistas negros no Brasil, incluindo salário, carga horária, funções desempenhadas e tipos de contratação; (2) identificar os principais desafios enfrentados, como discriminação racial, sub-representação em posições de destaque e barreiras para o avanço na carreira; (3) investigar as estratégias de resistência e iniciativas adotadas por esses profissionais para promover inclusão e diversidade; e (4) comparar os dados das pesquisas de 2012, 2017 e 2021, a fim de identificar mudanças e permanências no cenário profissional dos jornalistas negros. Para responder ao problema de pesquisa, a metodologia adotada envolve revisão bibliométrica da literatura sobre o tema, estudo quantitativo dos dados das pesquisas de Perfil (2012 e 2021) e de Trajetórias (2017) dosjornalistas brasileiros; e realiza entrevistas qualitativas com jornalistas negros e negras. Os principais resultados revelam a escassez de estudos sobre as carreiras desses profissionais, a permanência da sub-representação racial nos espaços de liderança e a persistência da precarização do trabalho.

This research presents characteristics of the work of Black journalists in Brazil, analyzing multiple dimensions of their careers. The study is justified by the need to understand the profile of Black journalists in the context of a labor market marked by racial inequalities and by the relevance of promoting diversity and inclusion in the media. Based on a review of previous studies on the profile and careers of Brazilian journalists, this research aims to understand the working conditions and challenges faced by these professionals. The research problem is: what are the characteristics of the careers of Black journalists in Brazil, considering the difficulties, opportunities, and strategies of resistance they encounter? The general objective is to understand the careers conditions of Black journalists in Brazil. The specific objectives are: (1) to analyze the careers conditions of Black journalists in Brazil, including salary, working hours, functions performed, and types of employment; (2) to identify the main challenges they face, such as racial discrimination, underrepresentation in prominent positions, and barriers to career advancement; (3) to investigate the strategies of resistance and initiatives adopted by these professionals to promote inclusion and diversity; and (4) to compare the data from the 2012, 2017, and 2021 surveys in order to identify changes and continuities in the professional landscape of Black journalists. To address the research problem, the methodology combines a bibliometric review of the literature on the topic, a quantitative study of data from the Profile surveys (2012 and 2021) and the Trajectories survey (2017) of Brazilian journalists, as well as qualitative interviews with Black journalists. The main findings reveal the scarcity of studies on the careers of these professionals, the persistence of racial underrepresentation in leadership positions, and the continued precariousness of work.
