Abstract

This work aims to study the interaction of environmental inspection with macroeconomic variables, that is, what is the impact of these variables when adopting more active mitigation strategies. For this, a DSGE model with two sectors was used, namely: agricultural sector; and non-agricultural sector. This model was applied to the Brazilian economy using annual data from 2005 to 2019. The results indicate that an active inspection policy is able to reduce deforestation, and thus, the emission levels of CO2 significantly and consistently. Given that, in the model of this work, the agricultural sector expands its production through deforestation, then the expected would be a significant drop in the production of this sector, but this was not proven, statistically, in these results.
