Abstract

Fish are a widely diverse group and distributed, and the Characiformes are the order with the largest number of species in the Neotropics. Within this order, the genus Astyanax is distinguished by uncertainty and taxonomic diversity of their species, constituting the list of Incertae sedis. A. scabripinnis is a species complex of this genus, described by Jenyns in 1842, and has a wide variability morphologic and karyotype among its individuals and their populations. Within the complex there is the presence of supernumerary chromosomes, also known as B chromosomes that are present in some individuals to certain populations. This chromosome does not have a recognized role in this complex, but in other species where it is found already showed transcription signals. The transcriptome study, using as tools the next generation sequencers (RNAseq) or microarray assays are widely carried out to determine difference in gene expression between individuals. This study, using these tools, shown in gonadal tissue differentiation in gene expression between females who are suffering and those who do not carry the supernumerary chromosome, as well as between the sexes. This can be evidenced in different tests, first in transcriptomics analysis RNAseq and also by microarray assay. The results suggest the involvement of chromosome B in the transcription of female gonadal genes in Astyanax aff. scabripinnis. The microarray tests corroborate the findings by next generation sequencing and also showed the difference in gene expression between males and females.
