Abstract

The term "sorority" is increasingly being used in discourses related to women, whether in academic spheres or feminist activism. However, the concept is still recent and lacks a consistent theoretical foundation, leading to different interpretations from critical to neoliberal perspectives. Regardless of the perspective, "sorority" is connected to gender issues, since it emerges as a product of contemporary feminist movements, as a response to sexist oppression within the capitalist and patriarchal system. In this context, this research aims to discuss the perception of sorority as both a practice and theory, focusing on researchers and extension workers affiliated with gender-focused research groups and programs/projects at Paraná State Universities in 2022-2023. The overall goal of this research is to understand the challenges and possibilities of the practice of sorority based on the perception of research groups and extension programs/projects that focus on the gender issue at Paraná State Universities. The specific objectives include: a) to map current concepts and definitions of the sorority in the actual days; b) to analyze its conceptual understanding among members of research groups and programs/projects at Paraná State Universities; c) to explore whether sorority is implemented within the actions of the research groups and programs/projects at Paraná State Universities. To achieve the proposed goals, the methodological path adopted was a bibliographic review and field research, which consisted of applying a questionnaire to the target audience of this study, between September 2022 and June 2023.This study is exploratory, descriptive, qualitative, and quantitative. The methodology applied allowed us to verify that the concept of sorority is a reality present in the daily lives of women researchers and extensionists, whether through their own experiences or within the scope of academic research. However, this experience alone does not fully address the complexity of the concept and daily relationships among women. It demonstrates the need for a consistent theoretical foundation on sorority, in order to expand its possibilities
