Abstract

The genus Vriesea Lindl. is the second most diverse genus of Bromeliaceae, with a total of 219 species reported to Brazil with the largest specific diversity in the Atlantic Forest. In the recent publication of the Vascular Plant List of Paraná, were cited 27 Vriesea species, 18 of wich fall under the Vriesea section. This study aims to know the diversity of the genus Vriesea section Vriesea in the state of Paraná, emphasizing the morphological and taxonomic aspects of the taxa and conservation status. Field trips to localities in different areas, ecosystems and altitudinal levels in the State of Paraná were carried out to collect specimens of the taxa for the study. These localities include the phytogeografic domains: Cerrado, Atlantic Forest, Araucaria Forest and Grasslands. The material collected was herborized according to plant taxonomy methodology and the specimens were deposited in the Herbarium HUPG. Morphological analysis and geographic distributions were based on original descriptions, the collected material, photos and specimens of the following herbaria: HUPG, MBM, UPCB, HUEM, EFC and HBR. The conservation status for each species was evaluated using the World Conservation Union (IUCN). It was found 16 taxa belonging to the genus Vriesea section Vriesea: Vriesea carinata Wawra, Vriesea ensiformis (Vell.) Beer, Vriesea erythrodactylon E. Morren, Vriesea flammea L.B.Sm., Vriesea flava A. Costa, H. Luther & Wand, Vriesea friburguensis Mez., Vriesea guttata Linden & André, Vriesea heterostachys (Baker) L. B. Sm., Vriesea incurvata Gaud., Vriesea inflata (Wawra) Wawra, Vriesea phillipocoburgii Wawra, Vriesea procera (Mart. ex Schult. & Schult. F) Wittm., Vriesea reitzii Leme & Costa, Andrea, Vriesea rodigasiana E. Morren, Vriesea scalaris E. Morren e Vriesea vagans (L.B. Sm.) L.B. Sm. They are found mainly in the Atlantic coast in the Atlantic rain forest, Araucaria Forest and Grasslands of the state. V. inflata is endangered; V. ensiformis and V. friburgensis are in the Least Concern category, and other species are vulnerable in this state.
