Abstract
This dissertation aims to understand the process of spatialization of the new subjects
of popular medicine, which emerge from the scenario of contestation to the project of
modernization and rationalization (colonization) of life in the Paraná region of Campo
Gerais. Therefore, it is essential to understand the past of popular medicine in the
region, that is, how traditional practices were configured in different generations of
peasant women and who reproduced a rurality that is still present beyond the borders
'rural space' . The spatiality of the practice of parting produced by new social subjects
presumes another way of understanding life and caring for it, based on traditional
knowledge that is opposes to the hegemonic model of modern medicine, that is, that
there are other understandings about the health and care of the maternal body. on
the other hand, new care practices of parturientand and newborn in doulage were
verified. We will highlight the phenomenon of the emergence of new social categories
(new identity processes) nucleated around the process of resignification of the
practice of non-hegemonic childbirth and its consequent recognition as a hybrid
expression of a rurality, manifested in alternative and non-hegemonic urban spaces.
In this sense, predominantly active in urban space, whether in houses or hospitals,
are converted into hybrid subjects because they have a practice based on the
dialogue of rural and urban Knowledges. Methodologically, an exploratory survey is
used that points to the existence of this group and its practices, expanding the spatial
cutout to other neighboring regions. In this sense, the application of two
questionnaires via google forms: the first, applied in 2021, which sought to evidence
information about the use of medicinal plants in the postpartum period of women who
had children in the last 15 years in the Campos Gerais; , and the second form
applied to doulas, in 2022, in order to find out if there are influences of traditional
knowledge, especially that of traditional midwives, in their practices, in addition to
perceiving their recognition or not as hybrid subject, whether in relation to the
knowledge manifested, but also in relation to their consumption I spatial organization
in environments through home and hospital births. Based on the results analyzed, we
identified that traditional feminine care practices remain in Campos Gerais, but with
another connotation influenced by values of known modernity. Thus, practices are
passed on and converted into a mixture of patrimonial know-how and scientificity, so
that ancient customs remain in the present day, even if called in other ways. We
reiterate the importance of geography to pay respect to subalternized knowledge,
either by gender issues, considering that mainly when we refer to midwives we are
talking about women, or by their spatial influence, nodinatedly of rural environments,
both markers (gender and spatial) stigmatized in a dichotomous and modern view.
