Abstract

Islam, for many years, has been a constant theme in the news. Many times, attempts have been made to define Islam, however, stereotyped, and contradictory views have been made. These analyzes can be seen in education, especially in textbooks, as pointed out by some recent research, which studied the representations of Islam in history textbooks. In our research, we tried to analyze these representations of Islam in two textbooks on Religious Education, produced and distributed by the Government of the State of Paraná, at two different times (2008 - 2012), and which reflect two distinct curricular proposals. We analyzed the processes, production contexts and historical content present in the curricular proposals and textbooks produced by the State of Paraná, trying to understand the relationship between the two disciplines in their trajectories until today. This relationship can be seen since the colonial period when history was introduced as an adjacent content of the discipline of Religious Education. Going through different moments in Brazilian educational history, this relationship found moments of tension and debate between the two disciplines. We also propose, as a pedagogical product, a pedagogical dossier, which contains a series of documents that can be worked on by the teacher in the classroom, both for the subjects of Religious Education and History, as well as other subjects that study Islam.
