Abstract

Fibromyalgia Syndrome is considered a pain regulation disorder, a multidisciplinary approach including a combination of pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapy is used in the treatment of fibromyalgia (FM), to alleviate symptoms and promote the patient's well-being. The objective of this study was to develop an Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (PICS) program associated with Health Education in a multidisciplinary approach made possible for patients diagnosed with FM, to promote well-being. Mixed methods were used in two phases: the first was a documentary analysis and systematic observation on the theme of construction and foundation of the Health Education program associated with PICS; in the second phase, an exploratory pilot intervention study was carried out, applied to a population of women diagnosed with FM. In the first phase, the "FloreSER" program was developed in a sequential logic of content, from lesser to greater complexity of understanding, and scheduled to take place in 12 face-to-face meetings, lasting three hours in group dynamics. Each meeting was scheduled in two moments, associating a health education activity and another with an experience with PICS therapy. The program covered: Aromatherapy, Music Therapy, Auriculotherapy, Forgiveness Workshop, Medicinal Plants and or Phytotherapy, Tai Chi Chuan, Integrative Community Therapy, Reiki, Wheel of Life, Circle of Restorative Justice, Physical Exercises, Workshop on recipes for healthy eating. In the second phase, of the exploratory study, eight women with FM participated, coming from a chronic pain outpatient clinic of a university hospital integrated into the Unified Health System. Self-perception was assessed at the beginning and the end of the 12 weeks of the program using the wheel of life instrument, a self-analysis technique for 12 areas of life; and to analyze the patient's well-being, a Likert-type scale was adapted to be applied before and after each meeting session. The results suggest that the program contributed significantly to nine aspects of the studied population's area of life: Health and disposition; Intellectual development; Emotional balance; Fulfillment and purpose; Social contribution; Love development; Social life; Creativity, hobbies, and fun; Fullness and happiness. It is noteworthy that three areas represented in the Wheel of Life instrument were not changed by the application of the program: Family; Financial resources and Spirituality. Regarding well-being, significant differences were found in all meetings, demonstrating that each meeting led to better well-being for the participating individual. It is concluded that the "Florescer" program, composed of a set of Integrative and Complementary Health Practice Therapies (PICS) associated with Health Education in a multidisciplinary, collective approach, promoted self-cure and well-being in the group of female patients with fibromyalgia.
