Entendimento sobre doenças cardíacas, condição bucal e qualidade de vida em pacientes cardiopatas atendidos em hospital universitário

Abstract

Diseases of the cardiovascular system are the main worldwide cause of death and affect the health system, increasing mortality rates, morbidity and health costs. Cardiopaths have their quality of life impaired in different aspects and this study aims to analyze this association with sociodemographic, periodontal conditions and the level of understanding about heart disease. This is a cross-sectional study, with a non-probabilistic sample of 118 patients with cardiovascular disease undergoing outpatient follow-up. Held in Ponta Grossa, PR, BR, between November 2018 and November 2019. Periodontal examination and the CADE-Q SV, SF-36 and OHIP-14 questionnaires were used. In the data analysis, the t-Student and Pearson correlation tests were used, with a significance level of 5%. The results revealed that the group has a medium and low level of knowledge about coronary artery disease, average quality of life and high quality of life related to oral health. There was a significant association showing that the higher the quality of life experienced by the cardiac patient, the smaller the impact that oral health has in this aspect. We conclude that there is no difference in the degree of knowledge about heart disease according to age, sex and quality of life. Better quality of life results are associated with less impact of oral health on quality of life.
