Many challenges are imposed on the university faculty in terms of welcoming and guiding neurodivergent students (Bolsoni et al., 2021). It is observed that the discussion of the concept of neurodiversity is still incipient in the university environment, focusing more on the medical perspective than on the educational/identity perspective (Freitas, 2016). This qualitative, interpretive research aims to understand the concept of neurodiversity, with an emphasis on identifying and analyzing the normative and legal documents that support the rights and needs of neurodivergent students in the university. It also seeks to reflect on how neurodivergent individuals, specifically students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), express themselves in the context of higher education. In addition to a literature review of authors who discuss the concept of neurodiversity (Singer, 2016; Freitas, 2016; Ortega, 2009), an analysis of laws (Brazil, 2018; 2021; 2023) and normative documents such as the Salamanca Statement (1994) was conducted to investigate what policies and guidelines teachers can rely on in receiving these students. Subsequently, an analysis of the curriculum of the State University of Ponta Grossa (Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa - UEPG) was conducted, as well as contact with the Dean of Student Affairs to ascertain which policies and procedures are considered in serving neurodivergent students. The lack of specific teacher training, the absence of clear institutional policies, and the scarcity of resources are some of the obstacles identified. The results indicate the urgent need to promote actions aimed at the inclusion of neurodivergent students in higher education. It is suggested that there is a need to invest in continuous teacher training, the development of specific institutional policies, and the creation of more flexible and accessible learning environments. Furthermore, the academic community must engage in the discussion of neurodiversity, seeking to demystify the topic and promote the appreciation of differences.pt_BR
