“Slava Ukraini”: Representações dos embates russo-ucranianos nas páginas do Chliborob (2009- 2019).

Abstract

The research sought to understand the representations and discourses about the RussianUkrainian conflicts in the period from 2009 to 2019 in the writings of the Chliborob newspaper. Considering the impossibility of a general approach, we propose to think about two events. The Holodomor that occurred in the years from 1932-1933, and in sequence the Crimean Crisis, which broke out in 2014. For the feasibility of the work, we analyzed the editions published between the years 2009-2019 and thus sought not only to understand their representations about mentioned events, but based on these mechanisms and discourses, we also understand the role of printed material as a representative of the Ukrainian-Brazilian press and its media character towards readers. Therefore, we analyze the media discourses and relationships between these vehicles and their social position, relevant to the proposed study. Using documentary research, we glimpse the newspaper's position in the delimited temporality, treating also of the context of Crimea, as well as others other such as anti-communism and the Russian presence in the region Ukraine. We can see in its pages, so many issues that concern the Ukrainian presence in Brazil, more specifically the activities of the Ukrainian Society of Brazil and other entities in the city of Curitiba, as well as the Russian-Ukrainian tensions and debates placed on an international stage. Therefore, the identity, cultural, socio-political, and economic issues between the two countries can be analyzed through media studies and documentary treatment. Far from ending solely based on the events mentioned, the representations towards the past, the discourses towards the present, and the tensions that permeate the pages of our object of study, are elements that we problematize and pay attention to during the research. The analyzes made also allow us to understand the ethnic-identity formations of the communities dealt with here, understanding, based on symbologies, religious and sociocultural mechanisms, how the national identities of a people are historically manufactured, and how, understanding these identities in crisis, are in certain contexts constantly re-signified and re-evaluated.
