Produção das consoantes fricativas interdentais do inglês como L2 por alunos do 4º ano de licenciatura em letras - inglês/português da UEPG

Abstract

Na presente pesquisa, busco investigar a aquisição do inglês como segunda língua, mais precisamente a produção dos segmentos consonantais fricativos interdentais por falantes de Português Brasileiro, em específico por acadêmicas do 4º ano do curso de Licenciatura em Letras - Inglês/Português da Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa (UEPG). Como fundamentação teórica, seguem-se estudos em aquisição de L2, baseados na teoria inatista de Chomsky (1959), contrastando a teoria behaviorista de Skinner (1954). Trago também alguns estudos fonético-fonológicos de língua inglesa e língua portuguesa, abordados em obras de Cristófaro Silva (2015), Hayes (2009), Crystal (1985), Davenport e Hannahs (2015), dentre outros. A presente pesquisa tem caráter qualitativo, ao que concerne à produção desses segmentos por seis participantes de experimento, com a coleta e isolamento de segmentos consonantais fricativos produzidos em cabine com isolamento acústico. A partir da inspeção dos dados com a utilização do software Praat (BOERSMA; WEENINK, 2023), verificam-se os seguintes resultados: as fricativas interdentais são, de fato, produzidas de forma esperada pelas participantes, demonstrando influência mínima do inventário fonético-fonológico de sua língua materna.

This research delves into the linguistic acquisition of English as a second language, with a specific focus on the production of interdental fricatives by Brazilian Portuguese speakers. The study targets university students in the fourth year of the Portuguese/English languages course at Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa (UEPG). Grounded in Chomsky's innatist theory (1959) within the realm of second language acquisition, the research contrasts Skinner's behaviorist theory (1954). The theoretical framework also incorporates studies on English and Portuguese phonetics and phonology, drawing from works by Cristófaro Silva (2015), Hayes (2009), Crystal (1985), and Davenport and Hannahs (2015), among others. Employing a qualitative approach, the investigation focuses on the acquisition process of interdental fricatives by six participants, who underwent data collection in a soundproof booth. Through the analysis of collected data using Praat software (BOERSMA; WEENINK, 2023), the findings reveal that the interdental fricatives are produced as expected by the participants, displaying minimal influence from the phonetic-phonological inventory of their native language.
