A nova sciencia politica, a pedagogia social”: representações na imprensa brasileira (1917-1940)

Abstract

Dissertation developed with the objective of explaining the representations of Social Pedagogy from a part of the press written in Brazil from 1917 to 1940. This process was carried out from the reference of Bourdieu's sociology and Cultural History with the concept of “representations ” by Chartier (1990). The time frame was delimited according to the availability of sources, seeking to explain what was found most representative among the possibilities. Within such possibilities, the main focus on sources from the 1930s allowed the analysis of traces of a context of political and social effervescence. The press was chosen as a source because it is one of the main spaces for the dissemination and circulation of ideas. Intellectuals who relied on it had an advantageous position in the fight for representations. In specific terms, we sought to illustrate the investigation process, in the midst of a certain scarcity of sources; describe the context of constitution of Social Pedagogy from representations in the Brazilian press; describe the reality of representations from the Brazilian context of the 1930s, in its relations between politics, society and education; and analyze the representations about the theories of Social Pedagogy, identifying the subjects responsible for them. The structure of the text passes through the chapters: representations of the context of the emergence of Social Pedagogy in Germany between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century; the representations of the relationship between Social Pedagogy and one of the authoritarian projects that founded the Estado Novo; and the analysis of representations of the Catholic laity, which disputed between the projects of Brazil at that time. The work made it possible to expand the historiography of Social Pedagogy theories in Brazil and to reflect on the possibilities of using such theories in certain contexts and their disputes.
