Ensino de História e representações de gêneros nos classificados da Gazeta do Povo (1937-1946)

Abstract

This research work intended to analyze the gender representations in Curitiba during the Estado Novo (1937-1946) from job advertisements published in the newspaper Gazeta do Povo. Through quantitative survey and content analysis of job advertisements and people who advertised their services and skills on the periodical, it was possible to analyze breaks and continuities on female representations, especially those related to the work market in Curitiba during the proposed period of time. The study revealed that, although they had more job opportunities, the female universe of activity was restricted to functions related to home and people caretaking. Also, ethnic and age requirements for women were identified, as well as lower wages than those offered to men. A didactic material which proposes the stimulation of newspaper reading and also taking the gender discussions listed in this work to History teaching, has been created at the end of the analysis. It aims at the critical analysis of the students on the constructions of male and female genders in Curitiba’s society during the 1930s and early 1940s, proposing a reflection between the past and the present.
