O direito à cidade dos imigrantes: a realidade dos venezuelanos em Ponta Grossa - PR

Abstract

This research explores the concept of the Right to the City from the perspective of the reality of Venezuelan immigrants in the municipality of Ponta Grossa, in the state of Paraná, Brazil. A theoretical approach based on the important contributions of authors such as Henri Lefebvre, David Harvey and Stephen Castells was used to investigate issues related to housing, employability, schooling and citizen participation of Venezuelan immigrants in the city of Ponta Grossa. The research was conducted using a mixed qualitative approach, combining the application of online questionnaires via Google Forms and semi-structured interviews with Venezuelans who have chosen to settle in Ponta Grossa. This methodology enables a better understanding of immigrants' experiences, challenges and needs in relation to the municipality. The results obtained indicate that immigrants face major challenges in fully exercising their Right to the City, including difficulties in accessing adequate housing, obstacles when trying to validate their academic qualifications, language barriers, among others. Furthermore, the research demonstrates the important role of active popular participation as an essential element in guaranteeing these immigrants' Right to the City. The study highlights the importance of a solid multidisciplinary approach and a methodology that addresses theoretical and practical aspects related to immigration in the urban space, giving voice to the immigrants themselves. This research contributes to the understanding of the complex urban dynamics in which Venezuelan immigrants are inserted and offers light for the formulation of possible public policies and more inclusive and equitable urban practices.
