Abstract

Given all the challenges and changes that Brazilian education has been going through over the last decades, it is impossible to maintain traditional teaching methodologies that do not evoke students' interest and involvement with knowledge. In this context, it is worth remembering that some studies on how individuals learn are appropriated and perhaps even more relevant for the current generation of young people amidst the challenges and changes. Studies related to metacognition show that meaningful learning must involve all the body's senses, making it possible for the practical understanding of new concepts presented to the student to occur. In this context, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) provides information that helps schools and educators to understand that there are distinct learning styles among students that must be considered when planning and implementing classes. In this work, it is shown the results of using active teaching methodologies as the objective of approaching thermal physics subjects to the different types of learning styles identified in students. The topic of thermal physics was chosen because it deals with concepts that are part of students' daily lives. However, active methodologies can and should be used and adapted to any subject in any discipline and education level. Such methodologies place students as protagonists of the teaching and learning process, thus favoring all learning styles studied by neurolinguistics. Active methodologies allow teaching to become much more dynamic and collaborative, developing the student's essential skills and abilities for the modern world. The educational product developed with this work proved to be efficient in the teaching and learning process, since the participating students had good results in the evaluations of the concepts addressed and in comparison, with classes from previous years, they obtained better scores.
