Abstract

The Brazilian rural environment is a territory that is often isolated and far from the networks, programs and services that connect urban centers. The problems generated by this territorial isolation are expressed in terrible rates of food insecurity, infant mortality, incidences of endemic diseases, unhealthy conditions, illiteracy, in addition to the difficulty of staying in the countryside. All these shortcomings place peasants and small farmers in a subordinate condition, needing to fight and create strategies to claim their rights, in a dispute for hegemony with large landowners. In this sense, one of the practices that has stood out, when monitoring camps and rural settlements in recent years, has been network organizations, whether of various specifications: commercialization, collective struggle for an agenda, among others. Thus, the general objective of the research will be to analyze the impacts of the networks in rural areas and in the reality of the MST settlements and camps in Ponta Grossa and the region, which work directly with the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG). The research uses a qualitative approach, of an exploratory-descriptive nature, with bibliographical, documentary and field research, through semi-structured interviews focusing on the leaders of the camps/settlements in the research universe, and questionnaires focusing on the families of these camps/settlements, with the purpose of learning more specifically about their experiences on the network. For data analysis, Bardin's content analysis (1977) was used as a methodology. The main results obtained were: knowledge about which networks the camps/settlements in Ponta Grossa and the region participate in; the importance of marketing and income generation networks for peasants to remain in rural areas; the potential of political, cultural and educational networks in the struggle for agrarian reform and the dispute for hegemony; the solidarity networks that gained strength and visibility during the pandemic period and that had a sentimental impact on the lives of campers/settlers, among others expressed in depth in chapter three. The results obtained on how networks are expressed in rural areas and in the reality of campers/settlers, may shed light on the needs and shortcomings that these individuals face, and the strategies they need to create to fight for their rights.
