“Não me interessa mais esta profissão": Representações dos professores no Jornal Diário dos Campos (1932-1950)

Abstract

The research dealt with the representations of the professors outlined in the pages of Jornal “Diário dos Campos” from 1932 to 1950, having as theoretical presupposition the Cultural History and the study of the representations of Roger Chartier, in agreement with the approach on the discourse of the media of Patrick Charaudeau. From the consultation to the Diary in the collection of the Museum of the General Fields (UEPG), it was possible to verify that the subjects referring to the years from 1932 to 1950, brought elements that referred to the education, making possible to perceive significant questions concerning the representations of the professors and teachers. The temporal cut was limited by the availability of the source, however, evidencing also essential aspects of the political context from the 1930s, both at the national and regional levels. We opted for the cut up to 1950, considering that from this context would be necessary other analyzes of political order, including from the discursive point of view regarding the matters published in the Diary. Consistent with Cultural History, we sought to deal with the New Political History perspective, since the reading of the sources made it possible to highlight political aspects of the context under consideration, considering that the temporal cut covers the Estado Novo period, a strongly centralizing and authoritarian regime which promoted censorship of the press, the primary source of this research. The text is composed of two chapters, which address, respectively, the educational debate from the written press in Ponta Grossa and the representations of the teachers in the “Diário dos Campos” newspaper, having as categories of analysis the civic, moral and patriotic discourses; teacher training and the feminization of the teaching profession, working conditions and the remuneration of teachers. The study of the subject is of considerable relevance to understand how the education, especially the teachers and teachers, was represented through the local newspaper as an opinion form of the ponta-grossenses citizens.
