Investigando as construções identitárias em contextos diaspóricos: uma análise do romance Americanah, de Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Abstract

The present work approaches, from a literary point of view, the issue of multiple identities, fluid and in constant construction, resulting from a world context marked by migrations, cultural hybrids and globalization. To this end, we developed an analysis of the novel Americanah, by the Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (2014), which illustrates, from the experiences of the immigrant and protagonist Ifemelu, the socio-cultural shocks experienced by the student who moves from Nigeria to the United States. The work is divided into three chapters, along which we problematize topics relevant to the novel in question, such as racism, xenophobia, the immigrant's relationship with work and housing, the imposition of the English language as dominant and oppression of women, taking into account intersections of race and class. Then, in the final remarks, we discuss the reverberation of this research in the educational context. The analysis is based on the theoretical assumptions of authors such as Achebe (1977) (1990), Adichie (2015), Bhabha (2007), Fanon (2008), Hall (2000) (2003) (2011), Ianni (2000), Kilomba (2019), Ribeiro (2018), among others. The research is of an interpretative nature, with characteristics of bibliographic research, and is justified by the current and social relevance of the themes dealt with in the work.
