Ações de Restauro e a Significação do Patrimônio Cultural: A Estação Ferroviária Ponta Grossa- Pr.

Abstract

The Ponta Grossa Railway Station is a cultural heritage listed at the state level and received a restoration intervention in 2019. Recognized as a building of historical and architectural importance, the now called Estação Saudade, is established in the central region of the city and exerts influence on spatial dynamics of the city. The railway implantation determined the urban layouts in the beginning of the 20th century and continues to exert influence on spaces now no longer occupied by the railway. The station had moments of glory, undue reuse and abandonment, however, the last restoration action proposes a new use of the building. In this context, the objective of this work is to understand how maintenance and restoration actions act in the resignification of cultural heritage - the Ponta Grossa Railway Station. The hypothesis is that the resignification is obtained through time and also through these practices. The research is divided into four chapters. Initially, conceptual aspects related to the theme are approached, such as culture, perception of the city, cultural heritage, social memory and restoration in its conceptual and contextual aspects. The second moment makes a reading of the object of study: the station in relation to its context in the city, its history and architecture. The third moment explores the restoration process (with damage analysis) and the redefinition that this procedure provides. The analysis methodology was carried out through interviews with the process participants, as well as questionnaires to the public and employees of 'SESC Estação Saudade'. The study concludes that the building is reinterpreted through restoration and this is intertwined with the city's culture, with the railway identity, through individual and collective memories and, based on the materiality of the building and proposals for new uses – uses that return people's access to the station.
