dc.description.abstractThe structure and properties of polymers, or composites, can be drastically modified by extensional flows applied during processing. In this work, PVDF and PP were used as matrices for the production of composites containing montmorillonite (MMT), multi wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) or graphite as fillers. For the processing, a device capable of applying extensional flow (EFD) was built, at a rate of 33.19 s-1, during extrusion, to compare the effects caused by the controlled flow, the processing was carried out with and without the EFD for production of filaments. The impact of controlled flow in processing was evaluated on the dispersion of fillers, rheological, mechanical, and thermal properties for the different composites and for neat polymers. The results of the particle size measurements showed that the use of EFD was able to provide reductions in the agglomerates dimensions, for all the fillers used. MMT particles in PVDF matrix showed decreases of 55%. Furthermore, the extensional flow significantly increased the values of G', G", rl* and the relaxation (tr) of composites containing MWCNT or graphite, but had marginal effects for composites containing MMT, this in relation to homologous compositions processed without the EFD. Regarding the mechanical properties, the compositions processed with EFD reached higher values of E, OM and E', which is directly related to the finer dispersion of particles in the polymer matrix for the composites and the alignment of the chains in the flow direction for the PVDF-el and PP-el. The presence of MMT in PVDF favored the crystallization of the piezoelectric phase, in addition, the elongational flow increased the final crystallinity of the composites with different fillers as well as the pure matrices of PVDF-el and PP-el, where this increase was 9 %. In this case, for the pure polymers, this effect is related to the alignment of the chains that can favor the crystallization, while for the composites it is due to the more accentuated nucleating effect for the processing with the EFD.pt_BR
dc.description.resumoA estrutura e as propriedades dos polimeros ou comp6sitos podem ser drasticamente modificadas par fluxos elongacionais aplicados durante o processamento. Neste trabalho, PVDF e PP foram utilizados coma matrizes para produgao de comp6sitos contendo coma cargas montmorilonita (MMT), nanotubos de carbono de multiplas camadas (NTCMC) ou grafite. Para o processamento foi construido um dispositivo capaz de aplicar fluxo elongacional (DFE) a uma taxa de 33,19 s-1 durante a extrusao, para comparagao dos efeitos causados pelo fluxo controlado, o processamento foi realizado com e sem o DFE para a produgao de filamentos. 0 impacto do fluxo controlado no processamento foi avaliado sabre a dispersao das cargas, propriedades reol6gicas, mecanicas, e termicas, para os diferentes comp6sitos e para os polimeros sem adigao. Os resultados das medidas de tamanho de aglomeradoss mostraram que o uso do DFE foi capaz de proporcionar redu96es nas dimens6es dos aglomerados, para todas as cargas utilizadas. Os aglomerados de MMT em matriz de PVDF apresentaram diminui96es de 55%. Alem disso, o fluxo elongacional aumentou, significativamente, os valores de G', G", 17* e o relaxamento (tr) dos comp6sitos contendo NTCMC ou grafite, mas teve efeitos marginais para comp6sitos contendo MMT, isto em relagao as composi96es hom6Iogas processadas sem o DFE. Sabre as propriedades mecanicas, as composi96es processadas com o DFE atingiram valores de E, OM e E' maiores, o que se relaciona diretamente com a dispersao mais fina dos aglomerados na matriz polimerica para os comp6sitos e ao alinhamento das cadeias na diregao do fluxo para o PVDF-el e PP-el. A presenga de MMT em PVDF favoreceu a cristalizac;ao da fase piezoeletrica , alem disso, o fluxo elongacional aumentou a cristalinidade final dos comp6sitos com as diferentes cargas bem coma das matrizes puras de PVDF-el e PP-el, onde este aumento foi de 9%. Neste caso, para os polimeros puros, este efeito encontra-se relacionado ao alinhamento das cadeias que pode favorecer a cristalizacão, enquanto para os compósitos se deve ao efeito nucleante mais acentuado para o processamento contando com o DFE.pt_BR
