TENSÕES NA CONSTRUÇÃO IDENTITÁRIA POLONESA: o caso da Colônia Amola-Faca/Virmond (PR).

Abstract

The Polish identity construction is the theme that generated this research, which sought to develop a study on the constitution of Virmond, a colony of Polish immigrants, founded at the beginning of the 20th century. The possible relations between the Catholic Church and the identity formation are discussed, and how this relationship would have marked the life of the residents, establishing practices and knowledge. For this understanding, there is a need to establish connections with the changes that have taken place within the Catholic Church at that time, of a global character known as the Romanization of Catholicism, and also the changes at the national level, with the search for the affirmation of the Catholic Church in Brazil. The religiosity present among the immigrants, with the desire to continue exercising their faith will be present in the home, in the school and in the community as a whole. When referring to the colonization of immigrants, we address issues such as individual and collective identities, permanences and changes, and the construction of memory. Through interviews with Polish immigrants and their descendants (oral history) and the use of publications of the time, one can perceive that Catholic faith, nationality, the desire to build a new life with the maintenance of politeness constitute the bonds Which structure the identity of the colony. The concept of identity runs through the analysis of all the proposed questions.
