Abstract

This thesis aims to identify the interfaces that approach Photography and Cultural Heritage, through the paths of memory and perception – Cultural Geography: photography (art and technic) as a way of registration and dissemination of Cultural Heritage and photography while an object of social and individual memory. In order to do so, social actors who experience and photographically record urban landscapes were interviewed, seeking to apprehend from their perceptions how photography became a special object of memory. The research corresponds first to a theoretical debate, where reflections on the social use of photography over time and the possible relations with memory, urban landscape and cultural heritage from the phenomenological approach are presented. Interview data from photographers and population are presented and discussed, with data that reinforces the preposition of photography as a symbolic cultural object, of the imaginary and social memory, of recognition and individual valorization. Finally, it presents the identified interfaces, such as the visualities of patrimony promoted by photography, photography as expression-document and monument, photography as place of memory and the synesthesia of photography and cultural heritage. Concepts such as: photography, landscape, memory and heritage were discussed, and with the proposed reflections comprehend and collaborate with the discussion and legitimatization of photography as cultural heritage. .
