Mulheres negras no ensino de história do Brasil: a história de Maria Firmina dos Reis.

Abstract

In a long time, school history teaching, black people were retracted only as “slaves” and in the themes after the abolition of slavery, they disappeared from the school's historical narratives. After the Laws No. 10.639/03 and No. 11.645/08, that requires the teaching of Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous history, black people began to have some visibility in the teaching of History. This research selected the story of Maria Firmina dos Reis, an abolitionist activist who helped to reinforce the construction of black women’s identity and the defense of their rights. For this research, Maria Firmina’s bibliography and some of her works already written, were used as important sources. The objective is to produce and make available a proposal of material for the work with the history and protagonism of black women in the history of Brazil, bringing Maria Firmina dos Reis’ life as example. The research results in the systematization of various texts about the author and a didactic material for the teaching of history that can contribute to giving visibility and representation to black women in the history. The methodology used in this research was the study of history through Maria Firmina dos Reis’ biography, a black woman who was chosen for this teaching material. The didactic material aims to include black women protagonists in the teaching of Brazilian History, to involve the diversity of the classroom and build respect, essential in a democratic society, with citizens who fight against prejudice, violence, racial and sexual discrimination.
